The Djeran edition of our Community Connections & Creating Change Reading Group is coming up!

CJU & Kwinana Library are bringing together curious minds to read, watch, and listen to authors, poets, artists, and creatives to advance our understanding and actions for a better world.

The next of these ONLINE sessions will be held on Monday, May 4 from 12:30pm - 1:30pm (AWST).

This is the third of six sessions with the reading group spanning the course of a year. Each session is facilitated by Climate Justice Union and has a different theme to align with the Noongar Seasons. There is no expectation to attend every session, you are welcome to attend as many of the sessions as you wish.

Unlike some book clubs and reading groups we will approach these gatherings similar to a meal with friends.

There are starter's mains, and dessert to choose from. You can read/watch/listen to one resource, but you are welcome to consume them all, as well as make your own suggestions for content to include.

Starter: a poem, song or visual to inspire and set the mood for an instant sense of the seasonal theme

Main: more involved such as a book, feature film or chapter to indulge in over a few days and keep you full between conversations

Dessert: shorter pieces such as a video, podcast of short read to consume in one sitting for the curious but time pressed

Aims:

To build community cohesion and connection,
To share and discuss literature and other mediums including art, music, film and podcasts broadly related to community connection and creating change.
To hold an inclusive and accessible space for people to have meaningful conversations that foster good relationships and inspire us to create a better world.
To listen and learn in open minded and respectful ways that challenge, comfort and feed us.

After you RSVP, you will be sent an email which contains:

1) Zoom link to join the online session
2) List of suggested readings / viewings / listening for this session

These sessions are suitable for adults and youth comfortable in adult environments.

All In Member Yarns - Djeran (11 May 2026)

Now more than ever those of us working for climate justice and collective solidarity need to be coming together and supporting each other.

Join other CJU members as we share what we are up to, discuss what's important and make connections across our campaigns, organising and work for climate justice.

This is a continuation of our "all in member yarns" sessions, where CJU members come together to share, connect and learn from each other.

We won't be developing shared strategies or alliances, planning big campaigns or critiquing each others work. But we can share what we are up to, ask questions and perhaps highlight new connections and opportunities.

Ultimately we can reflect and remember we aren't alone in this work.

These yarn will be gently facilitated and include whole group yarning, small group chats and text discussion for those who prefer.

The event is open to all CJU members and it is expected that all attendees uphold our CJU principles which can be found here.

All members are welcome, if you have a friend who you think would be up for being a part of the conversation, why not invite them to join up as a CJU member and come along.
