Building the mass support needed to win climate justice means engaging our friends, family and peers through conversation. And most of us know all too well how frustrating those conversations can be. Fortunately, learning how to have powerful conversations is a skill that everyone can learn.

In this training workshop, we’ll teach you the fundamentals you’ll need to turn arguments into conversations that strengthen relationships and win hearts and minds.

This workshop will run for 120 minutes and cover a jam-packed suite of tried and tested techniques that experienced organisers use to build movements.

Over the course of the training, we’ll dive deep into:

  • Active listening - the core of all good conversations
  • The context and strategic purpose of conversations - knowing when and where to use them (and when and where not to)
  • Useful frameworks to help you structure your conversations
  • Multiple opportunities to test your new knowledge in a safe environment

Achieving Climate Justice means building a movement across all intersections of society.

Persuasive and powerful conversations are crucial to our success.

By the end of this training, you’ll be able to employ active listening and structured conversations techniques, and will have completed the basic practice necessary to take these new skills out into the world and continue building the movement for Climate Justice.

We acknowledge that we begin our work as The Climate Justice Union on the Boodja (land) of the Wadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We honour the Wadjuk people and their kin in other Nations and Country across these lands and waters, who have always cared for this place and all who lived here.

We acknowledge First Nations Elders past and present, and acknowledge that those of us living here, who came from across the seas, live on land that was taken, stolen. We acknowledge the responsibility that comes with this understanding and that we personally and collectively benefit from this theft.

As such, we all have a responsibility to decolonise ourselves, our lives and work, and to heal the harm these oppressive systems have inflicted.
