Post-Referendum Wellbeing Session

We now know the result of the referendum, whilst 5 million people wrote yes for justice it was insufficient. CJU is holding a safe space to connect with each other, to reflect and to collectively find our next steps in forwarding justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Monday, 16th October, 5.30pm - 7pm (WA time) via Zoom

Why?

Given the outcome of the Referendum many of us are experiencing a range of strong feelings and emotions. Many of us have been having a difficult time dealing with the deeply entrenched white supremacy, racial violence, and misinformation being promoted and displayed across the continent right now.

As the late Aunty Margaret Colbung often said: "when the white man came to Australia, he came with the ROD. Racism, oppression and discrimination. But our elders are wise and wonderful people. They came back with an RSVP, resilience, strength, vitality and power."

So, on Monday we are holding a space for CJU members to connect with each other, to reflect and to collectively find our next steps in forwarding justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. It will be a safe space of listening and hearing from each other, all CJU members and friends are welcome

We will continue to hold more opportunities for radical collective care like this in the future.

We acknowledge that we begin our work as The Climate Justice Union on the Boodja (land) of the Wadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We honour the Wadjuk people and their kin in other Nations and Country across these lands and waters, who have always cared for this place and all who lived here.

We acknowledge First Nations Elders past and present, and acknowledge that those of us living here, who came from across the seas, live on land that was taken, stolen. We acknowledge the responsibility that comes with this understanding and that we personally and collectively benefit from this theft.

As such, we all have a responsibility to decolonise ourselves, our lives and work, and to heal the harm these oppressive systems have inflicted.
