The Committee are hosting two online sessions where members can drop-in with any queries related to the proposed constitution changes so these are discussed prior to the AGM.

We are aiming to have at least two committee members present. It's an opportunity to get orientated to the changes, understand particular elements, or raise concerns.

Drop in session 1: 6pm, Wednesday 19 November

Further background:

Climate Justice Union was created just over 6 years ago and a lot has been learnt in those years. When CJU wrote the Constitution it was based on a government-provided proforma and we didn’t fully understand what it would take to create and sustain an organisation like CJU, with a culture of collective care based in deep relationships.

The Committee are proposing some changes to the original Constitution to be more explicit about how CJU works and how we want to meet our aims.

These changes include incorporation of an “informed decision-making” process, clarification of roles and lengthening of committee terms. We have made our best effort to carefully consider each change to centre the needs of those most impacted by climate and social injustice. We feel the proposed changes will stand us in good stead for the coming years.

It’s also likely the constitution will need to be reviewed periodically as part of an evolution to remain true and useful to our work.

A copy of the proposed changes will be emailed to you upon RSVP for a drop in session. It has also been emailed to all members.

Members will be asked to vote at the upcoming AGM on the special resolution to amend the Constitution with the following wording:

Do you accept changes to the constitution as proposed in the document sent to members on 7 November 2025, subject to any changes agreed during consultation drop-in sessions?”

Members can appoint a proxy who is also a member of CJU to vote on their behalf by emailing secretary@climatejusticeunion.org

If you have concerns and can’t get to one of these sessions, please contact a committee member before the AGM.

We acknowledge that we begin our work as The Climate Justice Union on the Boodja (land) of the Wadjuk people of the Noongar Nation. We honour the Wadjuk people and their kin in other Nations and Country across these lands and waters, who have always cared for this place and all who lived here.

We acknowledge First Nations Elders past and present, and acknowledge that those of us living here, who came from across the seas, live on land that was taken, stolen. We acknowledge the responsibility that comes with this understanding and that we personally and collectively benefit from this theft.

As such, we all have a responsibility to decolonise ourselves, our lives and work, and to heal the harm these oppressive systems have inflicted.
